About the enterprise > History of the Factory History of the Factory Proletarsky zavod JSC is one of the oldest machine-building enterprises of the industrial Saint-Petersburg. It was founded in June 1825 at the 7th verst from Saint-Petersburg along the Schlisselburg tract. And on 7 September 1826 Saint-Petersburg Alexandrovsky Ironworks started its operation by launching a new foundry and immediately showed itself to be a powerful diversified machine-building enterprise. Unique machines and mechanisms were produced in its workshops, the orders of both the military and marine departments were executed and the first Russian steamships and submarines were launched from its wharfs and set sail. The Alexandrovsky craftsmen earned immortal glory participating in development of building units and metal decors for a whole number of the most famous Saint-Petersburg monuments and architectural structures: the Narva and the Moscow Triumphal Gates, the Arch of the General Staff Building, the arches of Troitsky, Smolny and Preobrazhensky Cathedrals, of the Alexandrinsky Theatre, of the Winter Palace etc. The first Russian steam locomotive was built at the Alexandrovsky factory in May 1845. And since that time the enterprise became the main supplier of locomotives and rolling stock for the Russian railway system. The factory that was renamed in November 1922 into “Proletarsky”continued to be the main repair depot for domestic railway vehicles. During the Great Patriotic War the employees of the factory – proletarzi – fought on all fronts in the ranks of the Soviet Army, protected their city as the members of people’s volunteer corps, built defensive fortifications, during the Siege of Leningrad continued to work in the workshops that turn out military production, and saved their city from fires and bombing. In 1945 the Proletarsky factory was awarded with the Flag of the State Defense Committee for its achievements. In the post-war period proletarzi took active part in the reconstruction of the country’s locomotive stock. In 1959 the factory was renamed into “Leningradsky Locomotive-building factory” (LTZ) and began to produce the mainline locomotives with ТГ-102 fluid transmission. By the governmental decision in 1963 the Proletarsky factory was restructured for the production of marine machinery. In 1970s together with the Central Research Institute of Marine Engineering and after the takeover of “Economizer” plant in 1974 the factory became the large-scale scientific production association – LO Proletarsky zavod – with the expanded product range. In 1976 on the 150th anniversary of its establishment the enterprise was awarded with the Order of the Russian Revolution for its high achievements in marine machinery production. Since 1964 and until now the main product range that defines the image of the scientific production association “Proletarsky zavod” includes: equipment of runway complexes of aircraft carries; dry and liquid cargoes transfer-at-sea gears; manipulators for performance of underwater operations from both inhabited and uninhabited deep-water vehicles; marine propellers and means for active ship control; ship’s hosting equipment; deck machinery; hydro motors and hydro pumps for different purposes; steering gears and stabilizers; water treatment equipment; marine gas turbogenerators; condensate and feeding pumps with steam and electric drivers for the main steam-power and nuclear-power generating units for surface vessels and submarines. The participants of the development of both the marine and shipborne machinery were recorded by the numerous state and departmental awards. In 1980s the sphere of the company’s activity expanded significantly. Apart from the main production the factory developed tunnel shields for metro construction, pile compressive installations for the city’s construction needs and equipment for feed mills and agriculture. Despite the economic crisis in the country in 1990s the production turn out (since 1992) by the LO “Proletarsky zavod” (Proletarsky zavod JSC since 1992) still remained competitive and in demand in Russia as well as abroad. Nowadays at the beginning of the XXI century Proletarsky zavod JSC is still one of the leading enterprises of Northwestern Federal District of the Russian Federation that specializes in producing marine machinery for surface vessels and submarines as well as energy equipment. The main consumers of Proletarsky zavod JSC are the leading shipbuilding companies in Russia. Proletarsky zavod provides deliveries of complex equipment for ships under intergovernmental agreements and of production to numerous energy objects in Russia, in near and far abroad. The enterprise has all necessary certificates including the certificate for military hardware production and for construction and development of pump equipment for nuclear power plants, constructions and complexes.
